Following the Spa Tradition to the Colonnade

The colonnade is not just a place for a stroll, it is the beating heart of Karlovy Vary with magnificent architecture. It is here that you can breathe in the true spa atmosphere, which has remained unchanged for centuries. With a traditional porcelain cup, you can taste the healing power of the hot springs, and the whole experience is enhanced by a warm Karlovy Vary spa wafer.

  • Hot Spring Colonnade and Hot Spring: located directly in the spa center on the right bank of the Teplá River. Here you will find the hottest spring (72 °C), which gushes up to a height of 12 meters. You can spice up your visit with a tour of the historical part of the hot spring underground.
  • Mill Colonnade: lies on the left bank of the Teplá River. It is the largest and most famous colonnade with five springs. It is considered a pseudo-Renaissance architectural gem by Josef Zítek.
  • Market, Park and Castle Colonnade: are equally beautiful buildings where you can taste other mineral springs. These differ in temperature and mineralization, which affects their healing effects.

Orthodox Church of St. Peter and Paul from the 19th century.

At first glance, it captivates with its five bright gilded domes, which contrast with the deep blue facade and the surrounding greenery. The church is open during visiting hours daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For Views of Nature

Karlovy Vary is not just about colonnades and springs. The real treasure lies just above them – in the deep, fragrant forests that surround the city. The hustle and bustle of the city is replaced here by silence, the rustling of trees and fresh air, which spa guests have been seeking for centuries. You will see the entire historical valley as if it were in the palm of your hand and understand why kings and artists have fallen in love with this place.

  • Diana Lookout Tower: is located on the Hill of Friendship, and in good weather you can see a panoramic view up to a distance of 70 km. To ascend to the most famous Karlovy Vary viewpoint, you can use the funicular railway next to the famous Grandhotel Pupp, so the trip is suitable for both the elderly and families with children. At the top, the Diana restaurant is open to visitors, you will also find a Butterfly House with hundreds of exotic butterflies with which you will be in direct contact, and a Mini Zoo.

More about the excursion area

  • Jelení skok Lookout: rises west above the center of Karlovy Vary. It is a wooden gazebo and a nearby chamois statue on a rocky cliff, to which a historical legend is attached. The viewpoint can be easily reached from the intermediate station of the Diana cable car and walk past the Myslivna sanatorium via Petrova výšina to the viewpoint, or walk along forest paths and stone steps directly from the Vřídlo spring.
  • Charles IV Lookout: is a freely accessible pseudo-Gothic brick observation tower in the form of a minaret with 80 steps. It is the oldest standing Carlsbad observation tower, ideal for those looking for a quieter walk in the forest. For easier access, you can use the Diana funicular (Jelení skok station) and continue along the yellow tourist trail. Otherwise, a challenging 1.2 km long path leads along the yellow trail from Poštovní dvůr.
  • Svatý Linhart Game Reserve: offers a unique experience – thanks to a system of suspended walkways that
lead several meters above the ground, you can observe deer, fallow deer and wild boars
in their natural environment without disturbing them. In addition to wildlife watching, you will also find a rope center, a path lined with wooden sculptures and a cafe
with an information center. We recommend using the Diana funicular and from there continuing along a pleasant,
almost flat forest path (approx. 2.5 km).
